Each issue of Environmental Insider will introduce you to members of our team and describe the unique role they play to support you and your clients.

Kevin Demko, Claims Attorney - Claims
Great American Insurance Group’s Environmental Division is excited to welcome Kevin Demko to the Claims team as a Claims Attorney. In his role, Kevin handles complex environmental liability claims and provides analyses of coverage issues to help minimize exposures and implement strategic resolutions. He utilizes his experience in litigating architecture and engineering matters to bring a valuable skill set to the Division.
Prior to joining Great American, Kevin served as a Senior Attorney at a Philadelphia-based law firm, where he worked on litigation of insurance coverage, construction defect and professional liability matters. Additionally, he managed portfolios of subrogation claims in products liability, property damage and workers’ compensation matters.
Kevin started his career at a real estate law firm in Philadelphia as an associate. Later, he transitioned to a mid-size law firm where he worked as an associate handling a variety of civil litigation matters from inception through trial, including professional liability defense and property subrogation. Kevin also worked as teaching fellow where he focused on improving students’ legal analysis and writing at Drexel University.
Kevin received his Bachelor of Arts in political science from Gettysburg College and his Juris Doctor from Drexel University. While obtaining his degree, Kevin had the opportunity to be the first student to argue before a Federal Court of Appeals in his third year.
"Jumping from a smaller law firm in the northeast to a large insurance company has been an adjustment, but everyone in the Division has been extremely supportive. I'm enjoying the 'midwestern ethos' Great American instills in their company culture", Kevin said.
Kevin is based out of our Exton office.
Alana Miller, Senior Production Underwriter - Underwriting
Great American Insurance Group’s Environmental welcomes Alana Miller to its Underwriting department as a Senior Production Underwriter. In her role, Alana uses her vast knowledge of environmental testing and government regulations to properly assess environmental liability to tailor best-in-class insurance solutions while developing new business opportunities for the Division. Alana has accumulated nearly a decade of environmental consulting and remediation experience and brings extensive brownfield redevelopment, site remediation, and groundwater treatment knowledge to Great American.
Alana obtained her Bachelor of Engineering in civil and environmental engineering from Princeton University, where she graduated with honors. While in school, she worked on a research project that involved measuring and analyzing data derived from methane leakage from an abandoned oil and gas well. She was also the winner of the Christine Trmal prize for outstanding thesis in Environmental Engineering.
Prior to joining Great American, Alana worked for an environmental remediation firm, where she designed in situ soil and groundwater remediation approaches and managed business development and sales efforts. Additionally, she worked as a staff engineer at an engineering firm where she consulted on brownfield redevelopment investigations and ensured contractors were abiding environmental regulations.
"I believe we have a duty to leave the world better than we found it. It's important that I work for a company that values making positive contributions to the environment and encouraging its employees to strive doing their best. I found that sense of value at Great American, and I'm excited to continue working for such a positive division," Alana said
Alana is based out of our New York Office.
Jennifer Oviedo, Production Underwriting Trainee - Underwriting
Great American Insurance Group’s Environmental Division is excited to welcome Jennifer Oviedo to the Underwriting team as an Underwriter Trainee. In her role, she will assist underwriters in assessing risk to initiate appropriate loss prevention actions while developing, as well as maintaining business relationships for the Division. She utilizes her communication skills and experience in data analytics to provide helpful service to the Division.
Prior to joining Great American, Jennifer served as an office administrator for a behavioral health company where she worked on developing risk management framework for insurance issues and seeking improvement opportunities in operational and training efficiencies. Additionally, she’s worked as a microbiologist at a mushroom farm with a specialization in fungi. As a microbiologist, Jennifer studied the life cycle of mushrooms to improve overall produce quality.
Jennifer received her bachelor’s degree in biology from Neumann University. While obtaining her degree, she had the opportunity to work as a student aid assisting the Laboratory Manager and worked as a professor aid for microbial studies.
"I found when working within the environmental field, you'll always have the opportunity to analyze and discover new trends. I'm a lifelong learner, and combining that with my analytical and scientific background is important to me," Jennifer said.
Jennifer is based out of our Exton office.
Carson Munn, Business Development Trainee - Communications
Great American Insurance Group’s Environmental Division welcomes Carson Munn to its Communications department as a Business Development Trainee. In his role, Carson will assist the Communications team in curating business development goals for our underwriters to best market our broad suite of product offerings while maintaining relationships with clients. Additionally, he supports event coordination, and manages information on the latest industry conferences, events, and expos. With previous experience in communications, marketing, and competitive intelligence, Carson brings a comprehensive set of expertise to the Division.
“The Communications team is excited to welcome Carson to further the business development efforts for the Division. His background in data reporting and customer service will serve him well in making contributions to the success of the division,” Shelley Lehnig, Business Developer, said.
Carson obtained his Bachelor of Arts in public communication from Kent State University with a minor in Italian studies. During his studies, he served as chapter president of his fraternity and spent the fall of 2019 studying abroad in Florence, Italy. Most recently, Carson served as an intern at a leading consumer manufacturing company where he researched competitor data, maintained leads for marketing purposes, audited product lists, and built informative packets and toolkits for clients. By leveraging his previous experience in office administration, he will successfully aid the Division’s communications team to organize events and monitor business plans.
Carson’s passion for the environment stemmed from his work as an Eagle Scout, where he discovered his passion for nature and interest in educating others on impactful issues like climate change.
"Going on camping trips as an Eagle Scout really strengthened my love for nature and the environment. I learned a lot about our impact as humans and what we can do to lessen our footprint," Carson said.
Carson is based out of our Cincinnati office.
Lucy Johanneman, Marketing Trainee - Communications
Great American Insurance Group’s Environmental Division welcomes Lucy Johanneman to its Communications department as a Marketing Trainee. In her role, Lucy will support various communication and branding efforts for the Division to ensure our unique coverage offerings and culture are accurately demonstrated through internal and external channels. With previous experience in marketing and sales, Lucy brings a unique set of skills to the Division.
“The Communications department is thrilled to have Lucy join our team. With her previous experience and strong work ethic, she will undoubtedly make great contributions to the Division’s creative branding initiatives,” Jena Phillips, Senior Marketing Representative, said.
Lucy obtained her Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Auburn University with minors in both counseling and Spanish. Her liberal arts background provides the necessary skills to strengthen client engagement and deliver a unique marketing perspective to the insurance industry. She initially developed an interest in environmental sustainability after learning about the impact human behavior can have on the surrounding environment, specifically in her college town.
Prior to joining Great American, Lucy worked as a field sales and marketing representative for an industry-leading power tools company where she created marketing campaigns, facilitated field sales, and led demo events. Additionally, she curated a positive connection between her company and the retail stores she was in.
"The environmental industry has always fascinated me. I hope to learn more about environmental pollution issues and how to be a more proactive individual," Lucy said.
Lucy is based out of our Cincinnati office.
